Turgutreis, the second largest town on the Bodrum Peninsula, offers visitors a slice of authentic Turkish life while providing ample entertainment options for everyone. Turgutreis is named after the great Turkish admiral of the same name, who was born here in the 16th century. Known as Dragut in the West, Turgutreis is primarily known for its role in the Ottoman siege of Malta. A coastal monument stands a few kilometers outside the town, marking the place where he first set sail. Today, the town, bearing the admiral's name, is a commercial center on the western side of the peninsula. Products from surrounding villages are collected and transported here, and bakeries, shops, and services thrive. For those more inclined towards entertainment, Turgutreis offers a unique Turkish atmosphere with miles of sandy beaches, seaside restaurants, and bars.
In Bodrum, you can visit the castle, the Ancient Theatre, and museums. At night, you can enjoy the bars in Gümbet and Bodrum Bar Street. Also, don't forget to shop at Oasis Shopping Center (open all day until 23:00), and visit the open markets in Bodrum on Tuesdays and Thursdays (all day) and in Turgutreis on Saturdays (all day).
